PRS Client Spotlight: Mark Maguire
Proprietor with Maguire’s Regional Cuisine
Like all great restaurateurs, Mark Maguire makes the difficult job
of running a popular restaurant look effortless. He's able to do
this because he's done every restaurant job at one time or another
in his busy 20-year career. After launching over 25 restaurants
for other companies, Maguire felt qualified to use what he'd learned
about customer service, gourmet food and relaxed ambience to open
one of his own. Maguire's Regional Cuisine Restaurant & Catering
opened in 1999 and has ingrained itself into the fabric of the Dallas
dining scene. Never one to rest on his laurels, Mr. Maguire is currently
working on several consulting jobs including a high-end boutique
resort development on Royal Island in the Bahamas and is set to
open the first of 5 planned European Soufflé & Wine Bars
called rise n.1 in the Inwood Village in Dallas.
Maguire takes seriously his role as a leader in the
Dallas restaurant community. He has been recognized with awards
for his philanthropic involvement as well as being awarded Restaurateur
of the Year for Dallas. He has been a director for the Texas Restaurant
Association since 2000 and currently serves as its Vice President,
and sits on the board of Phil Romano's Hunger Busters Foundation,
which feeds the homeless. Mark Maguire has been a valued Client
Partner of Preferred Restaurant Services for six years and we have
enjoyed servicing his restaurants and employees over the years.
Thanks, Mark for all that you do for PRS and the entire Restaurant
Community!
What’s Preferred and Not Preferred
October marks more than just a shift in our wardrobes; it also denotes
a shift in our eating habits. Fall evokes change; restaurant menus
are revamped, new restaurants are coming alive and people are out
and about! Most of us have our trusty local joint – the old
pair of shoes that we count on to make us feel comfortable. But
let’s face it, sometimes we want more than comfort –
we want a new taste sensation, novel presentation, and a fresh scene.
We want to wear a new pair of shoes! So as this new restaurant season
is upon us, we thought it would be a good idea to put together a
trend tracking list – a cheat sheet if you will – to
help you avoid a dining faux pas. PRS will continue to gather tips
and tricks from top magazine editorials, on-line resources, restaurant
critics, and most importantly, from your very own successful concepts.
So what’s preferred this Fall?

Testimonial: Anthony Leone of Energy Kitchen,
NYC
We began working with Preferred Restaurant Services in March 2007,
since then we have taken advantage of many services, and have referred
them to our franchisees location. PRS delivers top services in payroll,
workers comp, 401k options and health benefits and insurance. It
has been very beneficial to our organization to work with restaurateurs
who understand the industry and have designed programs to save us
time, efficiencies and bottom line dollars. We have had a great
experience with PRS and plan to continue our relationship as our
company grows.

Ask Dean McSherry
Dear Dean: Do you have any
suggestions on how to improve employee retention?
Remind your employees of our great health benefits program with
CIGNA and our “Mini-Med” program offered through StarBridge
which is available to hourly employees. The myCIGNA.com website
(medical and dental sections) are great resources for your employees
to examine details of their health care coverage, track deductibles,
out-of-pocket spending and lifetime maximums and print a temporary
HealthCare ID Card.
If your restaurant does not offer Health Benefits
to Management and other senior employees and you would like to improve
employee retention by 30-40% please contact PRS and we will help
improve you and your employees health and well-being.
Dear Dean: This is my first year carrying
Workers Compensation – Do you offer training in risk management?
From the front door, to four tops, to walk-in freezers, we know
the risks you face and know how to protect those risks unique to
the restaurant industry. As experts in restaurant insurance and
risk management issues, we have built upon our experience to develop
a portfolio of coverage that addresses every aspect of your restaurant
operation. We can provide safety training at your location and consulting
in risk management.
Bonus Q&A: Did you know?
We offer a Mini med program, 401k options, Employers Practices Liability
Insurance (EPLI), Management and consulting, Recruitment, Accounting
and Marketing Services? Stay tuned for next months issue where we
will be answering many questions on how these programs will help
benefit your bottom line.
